Welcome to the island of Lyrisia~!

Lyrisia is your typical middle-of-nowhere island. Or at least, you'd think that. In truth, it is invisible to machines and the naked eye. No one, as of yet, understands how to see it without being on it. However, there is a good reason for the invisiblity of the island. In short, it is the one place in the world where human beings can actually go in which the creatures of their nightmares and wildest dreams can live in relative harmony. As you probably know, they would be hunted and driven out from the cities of the world, so on this strange island, they are safe.
So, you are now aware that it exists, and that you cannot get there by normal means, or would want to go there in the first place. Well, the first is entirely true, but the latter is not always the case. If you wanted to go there, you would have to find one of the portals in the world which leads there. They were created by a witch of the United Kingdom, who was secretly employed and well taken care of. This witch was employed to help stop the desperate race against cancer. And how exactly do these portals to Lyrisia help save the human race from cancer? Well, the only known place where the drug to cure cancer grows is Lyrisia. Now you know the reason to go there. But you do not know the cost.
The cost of traveling through the portal is becoming one of those dream-creations yourself. Not because someone then straps you down to a table and injects supernatural juice in your veins, but because the portals alter humans to becoem one. It does not affect those who already are the witches and vampires of the world. Eventually, the powers of the world each had their own portal leading there, though there were some portals hidden in strange areas in the world, and everyone was trading with the amicable Lyrisians, who were nearly self-sufficent. There are caves on the island, housing monsters, minerals, and metals, providing for crafting purposes, animal products, and meat for those who actually wanted to eat it. There is a farm and a ranch, a clinic and a store, a carpenter and a blacksmith, a few other businesses and a large forest, full of foragable items. The one problem? Without the outside trade, the store was practically empty. Soon, the island began to flourish evermore, though it refused to take sides in any assorted wars the world outside could come up with.
Despite the fact that you couldn't see the island unless you were on it, it is not immune to the weather, and many of the islanders were swept away by an unexpected, powerful storm. The mayor of Lyrisia asked the nations to send people to help them to rebuild. The United States was the first nation to receive the message, and immediately asked for volunteers to help at the island. The catch? You would never be able to leave. Hey, it wasn't like your loved ones would want to see what you'd become. Naturally, a minimal ammount of volunteers trickled in. Similar dilemmas were happening in the other countries of the world where the messenger had gone to. Lyrisia had been a large community, so they needed more people than the people themselves were willing to give. The countries were reluctant to force people to leave their families, so they came up with a different idea. They asked criminals if they would like a second chance at life. Some agreed. Warning letters were sent to the mayor about these people, so she would be aware of the dilemmas everyone faced. She felt that she could handle those vigilantes, if they were willing to obey the rules.
So, what about you? Do you accept these summons, despite what it may cost you? Will you fit in with the group of misfits?
Oh, and since this is an island in the middle of nowhere...no phones, no internet, no TV. Everything is fairly...olden.

RULES:
-No godmoding. It makes everything so much less fun…
-Fighting. I don’t mind it IC, but in OOC, I will not tolerate it. Character death is okay, but don’t kill someone else’s character without their permission. That would be rude.
-Romance. Keep it PG-13, please and thank you. Time-skip instead. Besides, isn’t this site rules?
-There will be a character thread posted. Complete your skeleton there, and do not post in this thread until you are accepted.
-Don’t swear every other word. I know, I know, I’m getting picky…
-Try to inform me if you’re going to disappear for longer than one week. It’s just that…if you disappear for long lengths of time, it makes people think you’ve forgotten about the roleplay….
-I reserve the right to make extra rules if necessary, and also to kick people out if they do not adhere to the rules. I’m pretty sure most of them are pretty simple…

RACES:
I’m going to list a couple of common races here for your characters to morph into. Just as ideas, really.
Elf: a common humanoid with pointed ears, and some magical potential.
Witch/wizard: a person with deep magical talent.
Merperson: a person whose legs have been replaced with a tail. They have to live in the water, but can rest on a beach or upon a rock.
Half-monster: your character has the ability to shift into a monster, generally one of the creatures in the cave, such as an orc, wooly, or giant insect. (monsters from RF1, in case you need a refresher or don’t know, look on the Ushi no Tane website. I can't post the link here just yet. I'm not seven days old.)
Were-creature: like a half-monster, but instead, your character has the ability to turn into a normal animal, like a wolf or a tiger.
Vampire: the humanoids who are often described as pale, strong, and bloodthirsty….literally.
Fairy: usually petite creatures, but not necessarily smaller than a human. They have wings, sometimes like to cause pranks, and are adept in some form or another of magic, often a single element.
Lamia: a race of females with everything like a human...except, below the waist, they have the body of a snake. They can have fangs, are good with musical instruments such as the lyre, the harp, and the flute, and have lovely voices. They often learn songs that they can use to control people. Their male counterpart is the Naga, and the Naga are more often fierce warriors than they are musicians
Centaur: from the torso up, a centaur is a human. All else is a horse. They are intelligent creatures...and not always benevolent (ah, Greek myths, anyone?)
Shapeshifter: they don't immediately appear any different, but have one or two forms, monster or animal, that they can shift into, in addition to their human form.
Siren: Well, there's lots of different versions of sirens. In Lyrisia, they are females with the wings of a bird, and beautiful singing voices, and are a lot like the lamia in that respect. They are usually only good with string instruments, unlike the lamia, who are more varied. They also enchant men with their voices. They usually live near the ocean, and were often accused of luring seamen to a watery death with their singing.
Angel: usually considered to be agents of God, these beings are righteous and pious. They do not get along well with demons. They usually have large, feathered wings, most often white.
Demon: the evil counterpart of an angel. They can have any manner of physical change, including horns, bat wings, strange legs, odd colored skin, and claws. They often have a power over something.
Fallen Angel: an angel who has forsaken God. They are similar to demons, but do not share the physical side. Their wings have either been torn out, leaving an awful, eternal scar on their back, or have changed from their white color, usually to black or red.
Neko: humans that have cat ears and a tail.
I’ll add more upon request.

ON THE ASPECT OF EDUCATION:
Children learn from their parents, or get an apprenticeship for the job they want to learn. Some apprenticeships...well, they aren't the greatest idea for children, such as Blacksmith and Carpenter, so they are usually accepted after they turn 16. There can be more than one apprentice...but, who wants that kind of rivalry, eh?

Today is Spring 2. The first of the new townspeople are beginning to arrive. It is sunny, with a strong possibility of rain in the afternoon.

The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp) Empty Re: The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp)

The mayor woke up to the feeling of a small child jumping onto her bed. The first thing she felt, other than the bouncing child, was the still unfamiliar gathering of magic inside of her. "What is it, Zita?" the woman asked, looking up at her energetic daughter. She stared into those alien blue eyes framed by ebony hair so like her own. "Mama, there's new people coming! We get to meet new people! We can rebuild, Mama!" the little fairy girl shouted in excitement, her delicate, translucent blue wings fluttering, lifting her a few centimeters off the bed. the woman laughed and sat up, plucking her daughter out of the air and placing her on her lap. "Well, we should go get ready then, shouldn't we, Zita?" the woman said. The girl nodded enthusiastically, and dashed out of the room to try to dress herself. Not that the house was well built any longer. Walls had fallen down, and the roof was extremely leaky. Well, it mattered not to the little girl, so it mattered not to the woman.
After the woman dressed herself in a conservative short sleeve shirt and a pair of skinny jeans, and pulled on her black boots, she poked her head into her daughter's room. The girl was strapping herself into a sleeveless, light dress the lightest shade of blue, which avoided her fragile wings. The mother and her daughter carefully walked down the rotted stairs into the downstairs area, consisting of a kitchen and an area with the woman's desk and an area for people to sit. The little girl put on her shoes and jabbered on while her mother cooked a quick breakfast.

"Are you ready, Mr. Devereux?" the man clothed in black asked. In front of the mirror stood a man with messy golden hair gripping a suitcase in each hand. He nodded, before stepping into the swirling colors within the mirror, and disappeared from England forever.
The man gritted his teeth as a few pieces of his body were rearranged, and then he stepped out into his town.
It was as he expected it: in ruins. He appeared in the town center, and looked around at the destruction. I wonder...is anyone hurt? I hope I can help if they are. Do they even have the doctor anymore? he thought. He was worried about what could've happened to the inhabitants...but then again, he was a student of medicine. He glanced at the watch on his wrist. He was there a tad too early, and would have to wait for the people who would have to show him around. Despite this, he hoped they were early. He had much to do.
So...what am I, now that I am here? As the Prime Minister said, I am no longer human. The man placed his luggage down and felt his ears, which were still normal. Well, not an elf.

Keeping the inn clean was a pretty easy job. There were no travelers who came to the island so the rooms stayed nice and tidy. The only people who came to the Inn were new residents who had just came to the island. These people usually only stayed for a short while, only until they found a job which usually provided shelter for them. Only a few were not as lucky as to be able to live by their workplace and had to rent a room. This didn't bother Valerie much. She enjoyed the peace and quiet. She wasn't very good at social interactions and with her being a vampire now because of the portal's magic, she had even more of a reason to want to stay as far away from people as she could.
Unlike his sister, Adrian hated the quietness of the Inn. He loved people, he loved to be the center of attention. That was why he chose to be a bard. He had hoped that every night people would come to the Inn and listen to him play. So far he has gotten little audience.
"What are you doing Valerie?" Adrian asked walking to the hallways in front of some of the rooms where Valerie was sitting, reading a book.
"Reading." Valerie replied quietly not looking up from her book.
"Oh." Adrian said sighing. He opened th door to his room. It was morning and he was tired. He went inside to sleep a bit until later.
Valerie stayed out in the hallways reading her book. She was still not used to not being able to be outside during the day.

Elliot was up hours before anyone else. He woke up before sunrise to sart plowing the field. Winter was just over and the ground wasn't frozen anymore. He plowed up the field with an old hoe he found in the farmland's rundown shed. Several hours later he had cleared out a large section of the field. The sun finally was up and he decided to take a break and go to town for seeds.
James woke up to the sun shining through his window. Yawning he slowly crawled out of bed and pulled on a black tshirt and blue jeans. He tied his shoes and went downstairs to the carpentery shop. He didn't see his mentor anywhere but he did noticed a plate with some eggs and toast on it on the table. He walked over to the table and looked at the note under it while he ate. "Need more wood." was all that was scribbled on the paper. He sighed after he finished eating and cleaned his plate. He hadn't had much pratice was carpentry yet. He had been mostly in charge of getting wood or running the shop. He grabbed the axe by the door and left the shop in the direction of the forest.
Anna was already up and wondering the town. She had the previous week cleaned the bathhouse and there wasn't much work for her to do at the moment. The same went for the town. She had quickly learned that this place that she had ended up in was nearly abandoned.

Henry was out the door before the rest of his family was even up. He was the head of the law enforcement team and he took his postion seriously, even if the town he was working in was small. There were residents that he knew were crinimals and even if they claimed to put that past behind them and start over new, there was always a chance they could start crime again. He wasn't going to allow that. He had a wife and three children who he wanted to protect, as well as all the other residents on the island.
Jane was busy in the kitchen cooking breakfast for herself and her children. She knew her husband was at work and she was upset that he had left before she had woken up. Her daughters, Eva and Elli were turning five today and she wanted them all to be together to celebrate it.

"Oi! I've got 'er!" the guard yelled, pulling into the shadowed room a pale girl in handcuffs. She had recently been allowed to change out of the orange jumpsuit of American prisoners, and now wore a dress that almost matched her darkened amethyst eyes. On her back, shoved onto her before the handcuffs had been replaced, was a backpack containing some money, clothing, and a few other necessities that probably wouldn't be available on the island yet. Her eyes flickered around at the others in the room, some who would soon enter the world of the supernatural for eternity, and some who were just there to see them off. The guard pushed her across the room towards the portal before unlocking her handcuffs, as no one saw any sense in trapping her in them, since no one ought to be able to get them off. "Go on now, you're first," said one of the shadowed men near a swirling vortex. The white girl bit her lip, squared her shoulders, and walked calmly into the portal, away from a life ridicule and hate.
Of course, the portal itself was an ordeal. She felt as though the portal ripped her apart, and then hastily shoved her molecules back together, as though not caring how she was put back together as long as she was, indeed, put back together. The girl gritted her teeth, and landed on the outskirts of the town on her knees. Can't there just be a single place for the portal to place people? No one appears to be here... she thought, picking herself up off the ground and looking around, her long, white blond hair blowing about in the breeze. The girl shook her head, as if to stop herself from questioning the strange land further, and walked into town.

Jane finished making herself and her children breakfast and went upstairs their three bedroom home to wake up her children. She first stopped at the twin's room because she knew they were the easier ones to wake up in the morning. "Elli, Eva, time to wake up." She called into the room.
The two small figures in the bunkbed started to move. Eva was the first to sit up. "Morning Mommy." she said sleepishly while rubbing her eyes. Elli then rised and mumbled what her sister had said too.
"Morning girls and happy birthday." Jane said with a smile, "Breakfast is ready so get dressed and come downstairs when you are done." She left Eva and Elli's room and went to her son's room, which was next to her daughters' room. "Kevin." She said walking into the room. "It is morning, time to wake up." Kevin gave no response and she sighed. "Kevin" She repeated while lightly shaking him.
"What?" Kevin grumbled pulling the covers closer to him.
"It is time to wake up. I made breakfast."
Kevin groaned. "Can't I sleep in a little?"
"Your breakfast will be cold by then. I made chocolate chip pancakes."
Kevinms head shot up. "Really?" He asked to which his mother nodded. "Okay, I will be down soon." Jane laughed and left his room, going back downstairs to serve the food.
A few minutes later Kevin, Eva, and Elli all raced down the stairs and sat at the table. They began eating their breakfast happily. Jane smiled at her children and ate her portion as well.

The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp) Empty Re: The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp)

Post by Rhi'a Thu Aug 09, 2012 12:12 pm

Well, it appears that I am also not a merman, centaur, naga, werecreature, fairy, shapeshifter, monster...why on earth am I so hung up on this? the golden-haired man pondered. Well, either way...that leaves... Well, it was worth a shot, right? So the man held up his hand, and instinctively, reached for something inside himself. A ball of fire appeared in his hand. It disappeared immediately as he took a step backwards, and released his hold on his magic. "Well... I'm a wizard..." he said to no one in particular. Well, that didn't really matter, right? Everyone on the island would be different.

The mayor gave her daughter some bacon and eggs, which the girl cheerfully munched on. She took a plate for herself and sat next to her daughter. "Mama, do you think there'll be people for me to play with today?" the girl asked around her glass of orange juice. "The twins might play with you, and their brother," the mayor answered. "But it's their birthday today! Their mama might have something planned."

The girl with white skin, white blond hair, and purple eyes walked slowly to the center of town, thinking about her past. She was now free of the burdens of prison, though it wasn't like the other men and women in the prison bothered her terribly much. Sure, they did sometimes, but they spent very little time attacking her. But no one had come to visit her, so she had been somewhat lonely. But that was the point of her choice: she could make new friends, and not be ridiculed for something she didn't do. Hopefully.
She entered the town square finally, and perched on the edge of a shattered fountain, digging through her bag to see exactly what she had been given. A few dresses, underclothes, hygenic supplies, a couple of pairs of pants, a couple of shirts...and some needles and thread. She smiled, and continued to look through her bag, when she discovered a note. It read something along the lines of this, as far as she could tell from the terrible handwriting: Oi, girly. Heard a rumor ya were thinking about joining a sewing profession. I ain't got any cloth to give ya, but I've got those needles 'n thread. Jus' remember not to annoy the locals with 'ow ya didna actually kill your aunt. I don' think they care. Do they always have to be like this? she asked herself, ripping the note in half and putting it back in her bag.

The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp) Empty Re: The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp)

Elliot walked up the pathway which led from his farm to the town. He headed for the general store to buy seeds he needed. He didn't have a lot of money, but he still had enough to afford a few bags of seeds to start off his farm. The person working at the front register greeted him as he walked in. Elliot nodded in a greeting and went to look at the seeds. After some debating he settled on a few bags of turnips, strawberries, cabbages, and potatoes. He brought the seeds up to the register and paid for them. "Have a good day!" the clerk said as Elliot left the store.

James walked over to the area where he had gathered wood the other day. He started chopping at a stump for some short pieces of wood. He knew they had plenty of long pieces of wood. People didn't have much money at the time to afford house or building upgrades so business was slow. The only business they got was for selling firewood for the most part. It disappointed James because he was unable to get in any pratice because of the lack of demand.

The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp) Empty Re: The Hidden Island (a HM/RF rp)

Post by Spiritvoice Thu Aug 09, 2012 1:56 pm

Daniel wandered around his office, thinking. It was their second day in the village, and although he was a fully certified doctor, he wasn't as familiar with old-fashion medicine yet as he should have been coming here. He wasn't too worried about it, though. Hopefully, there wouldn't be anything too horrible happen any time soon, and he could focus on just check-ups and little fixes until he had more time to go over his medical books.
He walked into the residential part of the house, which was currently just a large sitting room and a single usable room off to the side. The rest of the house needed repairs, which he would work on when he got the chance to talk to a carpenter, or at least someone who had the skills for the repairs. He looked around the sitting room, his eyes resting on a young girl sitting by the window. Another thing he had to focus on was getting to know his niece, who he had only been aware of for a few weeks. He walked over to her and stood next to her. "What are you looking at?" he asked, glancing out the window over her head.

"The people." Jaida replied without looking at her uncle. "They're coming into the town, just like us."
"Yup, they are." Daniel replied. "All kinds of people looking for a new start. Just like us."
"Why?"
"Well, some of them are like us, trying to escape old memories. Some are looking for adventure or just want to experience something new. And there are probably some out there who came here because they have nowhere else to go."
"How do you know which ones are which?"
"We don't, not always. Sometimes you can tell by thw way they act, but other times, it's left up to whether they want to say or not."
"Do you think people can tell why we came?"
"I don't know, sweetie. But, they don't have to, if you don't want them to."

Nicholas walked around the edge of town being his first day in this town and seing as it was so small he doubted he could find any willing victims to be tortured, he could always go out to the caves and torture monsters but it might be better to stick around town for now as to not seem to unstable as he actually is. "i wonder what people around here are like" Nicholas ran his hand through his hair and played with his little knife that was at his hip, his knife he took three lives with his precious friend he had just sharpened it when he got here as well. "Why did the guards give me back my knife when i was sent here?" Nicholas questioned out loud as he walked towards the center of town

Mami and Moro emerged from the portal, carrying their backpacks full of the things they had decided to take with them to start off, including Mami's cooking utencils and Moro's wooden sword. The siblingsstood there for a moment, looking around.
"So, where do you think the Inn is?" he asked his sister.

"That's what I'm looking for right now." Mami replied, biting her lip.
As Mami continued to look around and get her grappling of this village, Moro stared at his sister, and then put a hand to his own head. "Oh, cool! We're both elves now!" he announced, a wide smile spreading across his face.
"As fascination as that is, we need to find where out new home and place of employment is going to be." Mami told him, slightly annoyed. "Come one! Let's check over here." She grabbed her brother's arm and dragged him towards a grouping of larger buildings that she assumed either contained the Inn, or were shops, which were probably nesr the Inn.

Nicholas walked down the street where the inn and other shops were still wondering what this place would hold for him. Nicholas drew his knife casually as he continued to walk and poked his finger just enough to draw blood and put his knife away watching the blood pool on his fingertip he imagined it moving into the air and forming a ball and it did so slowly but it raised and formed a small golf-ball sized orb "Cool" Nicholas said as he just observed the orb and wondered if he could do it with others blood or just his own

Well, this is going nowhere...I can do better looking around for myself.... The white girl rose to her feet again, pulling her backpack over her shoulder and joining a few of the wandering people who were looking for where they were supposed to be going. Between looking at the shop titles, General Store, Flower Shop, Jeweler's, the girl hardly noticed the two elves in front of her until she ran into one of them. "Oh! I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going, are you alright?" she asked.

Nicholas noticed a girl bump into one of two pointy eared humanoids and freak out mildly. He chuckled mildly to himself as he moved to the side of the street to observe these people. his hand was still about chest level with the orb of blood still floating above it. "interesting behavior" Nicholas sighed as he thought about the possibilities of his new found power

Moro stumbled a little when a girl ran into him, but caught himself and quickly turned around with a smile on his face. "Ah, I'm fine. No worries!" he told her. "So, are you going anywhere special, or just wandering?"
"Moro, we sould really be going." Mami quietly told her brother. Although the girl seemed nice, they should probably go back to trying to find the inn, in case somebody who was new to town needed a place to stay.
"It's okay, Mami. We have all day to look for the inn!" Moro replied. He turned back to the girl and said, "I'm Moro, by the way, and the shy one if my sister, Mami. What might your name be?"
Mami rolled her eyes, but just stood behind her brother, letting him talk. If she pushed too hard, she'd seem rude, something she already risked fairly often because of how uncomfortable she was around other people. Besides, he would never leave her alone if she didn't let him have a bit of fun before they had to get to work.

A breath of relief escaped the girl's lips as she straightened and adjusted her backpack. "Well, I was looking for the tailor's, since that is where I'll be working, although it would be a good idea to find a place to stay," she said. Not to mention that I should probably know the different areas in town, and should meet everyone currently here...
"Pleased to meet you both. I'm Rhi'anna,"
the girl said upon hearing the introduction. She didn't mind that the girl called Mami seemed to want to get going. After all, the first day was going to be a bit rough for everyone. She was a little eager herself to have a room of her own, instead of a cot in a miniature room with etchings for decoration and bars for a door.

Nicholas smiled as the introductions were going on he moved his hand so it was pointing straight out and aimed between there heads and willed the blood to move forward as though it was a bullet. it shot straight between the pointed eared ones heads and hit a building behind them "Interesting, i seem to be able to make it do what i want it to do" Nicholas said to himself walking towards the church with a flow of people as to not be noticed as the one who fired the blood

"Cool, you can come get a room at the inn!" Moro replied with a smile, glad they had at least one customer they could talk to occasionally. "Once we find it, of course."
Mami watched her brother talking, not really interested in joining the conversation. When a small ball of blood shot in front of her face, and then splattered on the building beside them, she gasped, and stood there in shock for a few moments. Her brother had seemed to be too caught up in his conversation to have noticed, in addition to the fact he was facing the opposie direction. "Um, Moro. I think we should get going." she said with a slightly nervous quiver in her voice.
"Yeah, come on. We should probably get Rhi'anna a room, so she has a place to stay." Moro replied, following along. "Come on! We can all find it together." he said to the girl.

Anna saw a few new residents chatting a bit away but she felt too shy to approch them. Instead she walked the opposite direction they were in and stumbled upon a beautiful building. It had stain glass windows and a tower which housed a bell. "This must be the church." She whispered to herself quietly. She walked up to the door and pulled the handle. The door swung open a bit louder than she would have thought it would have. She walked inside and looked around. There were several pews which faced an alter. Wanting to get a better look at the alter she walked up to it, unaware of the priest nearby.

Nicholas heard someone enter the church and saw it was a Red haired girl. Interesting Nicholas thought to himself walking slowly out from the side hall as she neared the altar "Hello" Nicholas said loud enough for her to hear he walked up to the edge of the altar and smiled at her "What are you doing in here?" Nicholas asked kindly

Anna jumped when she heard the preist behind her. She whipped around and the person she saw before her looked like the last type of guy who would be at a church. His voice was kind however, but that unnerved her even more. "I was... I was just looking at the alter." She replied, her voice obviouslty gave away her uneasiness about the guy.

Anna watched the man walk around the alter. She shoke her head at his offer of her getting a closer look. "Just got here.." She repeated under her breath, she watched him opening doors and going into other rooms. It dawns on her and the words escape her mouth before she realizes it, "So you are the priest?" The way she asked the question made it sound more like a statement of disbelief rather than a question.
